Each person has one evidenced profile. Scotland-wide figures sit under the work they changed; people connected to a particular railway also appear through that line. A person may belong to more than one line without duplicating their story.

Line collections bring together the people whose connection to that railway is evidenced. They include builders and operators, but also promoters, communities, cultural figures and campaigners where the nature of the connection is made explicit.

More people are being researched. The working register currently contains 24 national-profile candidates. Route research also records collective stories where individual names have not yet been recovered. A named person appears publicly only after their railway connection, core claims, sources and image decision have passed review.
